About the city
Aix-les-Bains is a town in the Savoie department in southeastern France. It lies near the Lac du Bourget 9 km by rail north of Chambery. The town lies at an altitude of about 250m and stretches along the eastern end of the beautiful Lac du Bourget and up the slopes above the lake that culminate in the Tour de L’Angle Est that overlooks the town and lake at a height of 1562m.
City areas
The city of Aix-les-Bains is divided into three cantons. Some of these administrative divisions also include several neighboring communes. The first block is the canton of Aix-les-Bains center which includes only a portion of the town of Aix-les-Bains.
Attractions
The city of Aix-les-Bains boasts many and wonderful attractions. One of these attractions is Notre Dame church, which is a byzantine style architectural wonder, well worth a visit.
Transportation
Aix-les-Bains is easily accessible by plane, but also by train and car. The more recommended though would be by car, as getting around the city and its surroundings is done much easier with a motorized vehicle.
Events
The city of Aix-les-Bains is a true mecca when it comes to annual events. The city is host to several important festivities each year, many of which are very exhilarating such as the rock festival/concert Musilac.

The food in Aix is nothing short of wonderful. The cuisine is mixed, you can find traces of French as well as local traditional cuisine. Whatever the choice, the dishes are spectacular, guaranteed to delight the taste buds.
History & Civilisation
The history of Aix-les-Bains is directly linked to Lake Bourget and especially its hot springs who make up a spa of the most famous in the world. The historical analysis of the city must be compared with the history of Savoy, if one wants to better understand its evolution and cultural influences.
Notre Dame of Aix
The Aix-les-Bains Church of Notre Dame is a Byzantine style church built in the late 19th century. The Church of Notre-Dame, parish of the Assumption, is located in the city center of Aix-les-Bains.
